At Illumina Murano, our story is one of passion, tradition, and the timeless beauty of Murano glass. For nearly 50 years, spanning two generations, our family has been dedicated to the art of designing and creating exceptional chandeliers.  After several decades working with designers, showrooms and supplying luxury home furnishing stores in the USA, UK, and Europe, Illumina Murano is a new iteration of the family business, created to introduce capsule collections of some of our favourite chandeliers for direct purchase, so that we can bring the charm and colour of Murano to homes around the world. 

Celebrating the Living Heritage Behind Every Murano Glass Chandelier

When the world thinks of Made in Italy, it conjures more than an origin label - it evokes centuries‑deep saper fare - know-how  - distilled into objects of timeless beauty. Our Murano glass chandeliers sit squarely in that tradition. They arise from one of Italy’s signature “industrial districts”: densely woven ecosystems where dozens of small, often family‑run workshops pool their specialized skills to create products the rest of the world simply cannot replicate.

How Illumina Murano is Unique 

What sets Illumina Murano apart is its handcrafted wrought iron frames, made in Tuscany by a partner workshop with whom the company shares a long and personal history. The frames, shaped into natural forms like grapevines and leaves, are inspired by the Tuscan countryside, a region where the original company’s founder once taught mosaic design and craft for seven years. It was there he first envisioned the unique fusion of Murano glass and wrought iron that defines Illumina Murano’s work today.

Now celebrating his 91st year, the founder’s vision remains central to the company’s philosophy: artistry born from collaboration, tradition, and place.

Murano: An Island of Light and Glass

Our home island of Murano, just across the lagoon from Venice, epitomizes that model. Here, glass masters have perfected their art since the late 1200s. Families still trace lineage through furnaces that have burned for generations. Techniques are learned by watching a mentor’s hand rather than reading a manual, and secrets are guarded yet generously exchanged in the glow of molten glass or over espresso in the calle.

 

Craftsmanship

Each Illumina Murano chandelier begins with an original design and is brought to life through the collaborative efforts of expert Venetian glassmakers, skilled in traditional techniques such  soffio, fusione, murrina, and filigrana.  Each shaping and molding Murano glass into unique and stunning designs. Blown and sculpted with meticulous attention to detail, our craftsmen infuse each piece with the essence of their artistic skill, creating luminous works that stand as a testament to the enduring beauty of Murano glass.
